Welcome

The name "Fonte Carlina" comes from San Carlo", an archbishop of Milan, who cured himself with the help of this water in the 16th century.
Also the old road which runs through the Cannobina Valley has been given the name of the saint who visited la Borromea area.

In 1867 here was built a large building for bottling mineral water, as well as a big hotel in which famous personalities of the era used to stay: queens, philosophers, writers.
And the name Cannobio was known all over Europe.

In order to accomodate all the carriages of travellers of that period, stables were built behind the hotel.
After an interval, the bottling and sale of water was resumed again around 1925.
Soon thereafter, however, the commercial success of Fonte Carlina came to its end, and the hotel, as well as the bottling facility declined.
Only recently the town's admistration started to take care of the area.

The characteristics of the water: it's an "oligomineral" (with little carbonic dioxide) water with very active mineral components, which act as catalysts (unorganic enzyme).
The most famous of these "oligomineral" waters, like Carlina, are: Fiuggi in Italy, Vichy and Vittel inFrance, Baden-Baden in Germany and Bad-Zurzach in Switzerland.

The best "oligomineral" waters are recommended for the treatment of kidney colics and for detoxication treatments in general.
